The magical product that allegedly lightened your hair up.
When I was in middle/high school, I tried it...multiple times. (Everyone else was doing it, why couldn't I??) I also tried lemon juice in my hair.
Now there are ton more "home remedies" for this - cinnamon, honey, chamomile, hydrogen peroxide...too many!
I'm not sure if any of these methods work? I've only tried Sun-in and lemon juice...
What's your secret home recipe to lightening up your hair?! (And who put so much lemon in their hair that they thought it would turn blonde after having it in the sun ALL day and getting a horrible sunburn from lack of sunscreen? I know I can't be the only one...)
Oh, and I must mentioned...I'm not sure if my methods worked...or it was all in my head...
I could never get Sun-In or lemon juice to work. The best thing for lightening my hair is just spending as much time outside as possible.
ReplyDeleteI used Sun-In in high school. Only on my bangs. And they turned orange. I thought it was cool, but when I see photos now, I just looked weird.
ReplyDeleteTotally did the Sun-In spray! Might try it again this summer, but that would require I actually be outside not in my office....I'll have to think about this:)
ReplyDeleteha ha I used to love that stuff!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow -- when I saw this, I was like they still make that stuff? Haha. I remember being so excited when I first got this product in 8th grade :) I sprayed it ... blow dryed it (did it at night - no sun) ... NOTHING! I waited until the next day (thank goodness - it was spring - and the sun was shining bright), chose to not go to school, because seriously here what would you have rather done in 8th grade?? Go to one of the last days of school before it let out for summer or put sun in in your hair. Easy choice ;) So I sat outside and let this product sit in my hair and when my friends got off the bus they said my hair was lighter -- I didn't see much of a difference though. Now, my blog post comment might be the size of a dang mini post but you took me back to those days oh so long ago. The happily ever after project
ReplyDeleteI definitely tried the Sun-In! It took forever for me to convince my mom to let me get it - so funny!
ReplyDeleteI never tried Sun-In, I was terrified! One of my friends used to use it all the time and her hair looked awful. Looking back, it was probably because she was going from dark brown hair and loading it up with Sun-In!
ReplyDeleteLOL I kept Sun-In in business during my high school years! I swear I used a bottle a month!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried to lighten my hair, but I know for getting a red color naturally henna is a great choice.
ReplyDeleteHaha I totally used Sun In!!! Wow.. major flashback!
ReplyDeleteI remember a product like this - and lemons.
ReplyDeleteAnd we would pour coke on our skin, and dive in the pool if flies came.
And baby oil ...
ack, no wonder i look a 100!
hahahaha oh this takes me back! I remember me and all my friends were sporting orangey colored hair from sun in! haha Nowadays, I let the pros handle my hair and I don't do any home coloring.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Sun in!!!! I totally remember that! Summer after 8th grade my mom got it for me and I used it on all my hair and it went SUPER light blonde! Yeesh! Lol. I've used John Frieda blonde lightening gel and it not only smelled great (had lemon in it) but worked well. Nowadays I add my own highlights with dye. Ha! lol Not natural but it goes right where I want it to.
ReplyDeleteohhh, i remember sun in. my friend used it every summer and my mom always told me not to let her trick me into using it.
ReplyDeleteshe did. and my hair turned a hideous orange color on the ends and streaked throughout. my mom wanted to kick my butt! lol and i wanted to cry.
your hair is such a pretty color...it would look good light or dark <3
